Forest School - May
Avon class are now enjoying their Friday afternoons in Forest School. On their first session children explored the changes that had occurred since we last visited and had the chance to hunt for minibeasts, play in the mud kitchen, make masks and much more. It was lovely to see the children interacting so well in pairs and small groups to explore together. Here are some of the highlights.....
Castles - April & May
This half term the children will be learning more about castles following our amazing trip to Warwick Castle. Over the holidays children made some super characters to go in our class castle, as you will see in the photo below. The children have already learnt a great deal about castles through many different curriculum areas. We have designed and made our own castles, written a castle non fiction book and over the coming weeks will look at castle stories. We hope they enjoy sharing their learning with you about castles at home.
Supertato - January & February
In Avon we have been reading the story Supertato. Unfortunately, Evil Pea came to visit our school and caused chaos in the classroom! He stuck carrots to the table, drew on broccoli’s face and wrapped cucumbers in toilet rolls! We couldn’t believe our eyes! Luckily, the children designed and built traps to catch the evil peas. We have written letters to Evil Pea telling him that we have captured his team of peas. We hope that they don’t escape and cause more trouble.
Happy New Year!
Welcome back after the Christmas break. The children have enjoyed telling us all about their Christmas celebrations with their families and also all the presents they got! To begin the term we are doing a mini topic all about winter. To find out more about our work this term please see the newsletter below.

Avon Class November 2016 Update
Welcome back after our half term break. The children have come back full of enthusiasm which is fantastic. This half term our topic is the farmyard. Children will have lots of opportunities to learn new things such as; different aspects of farmyard life, farm animals and facts about them, changes that take place during our seasons and the food we get from farms. We will use our farmyard theme to drive the majority of learning within Avon class. Our very own farm shop will allow children to learn a great deal whilst in their natural play environment, for example becoming more confident with money, naming and describing a variety of fruit and vegetables and creating a shopping list so they don’t forget anything!
Look at all the things we have done in this half term so far, we’ve had so much fun learning new things in Avon Class.
The children have made a fantastic start to Offenham School and Avon class. We are very proud of them all. They have settled very quickly and enjoyed exploring their new school environment. In our class we have 21 Reception children and 3 Year One children. They have been busy making new friends, listening to stories, going outside for lunch and playtimes, getting changed for PE, learning new rules and routines and having lots of fun with lots of different toys. We have 3 adults in Avon Class, Miss Aucock, Mrs Roden and Mrs Tustin, please don’t hesitate to come and see any of us either before or after school if you have any questions or queries.
Physical Education
On Wednesdays we have PE so please ensure children always have their PE kits in school. We are encouraging them to get dressed in their kit / uniform as independently as possible so your support with this at home would be much appreciated.
Reading
Children will bring their reading books and journals home every day. Reading is a life long skill and we hope the children will develop a love for books from an early age. Please read with your child as often as you are able and sign / comment in the planner so we are able to change their book at school.
