Monday 13th July
Good morning and welcome to the last week of the summer term 2020. What a strange year it has been for everyone. We are hoping that in September we can return to some sort of normality.
As we continue to think about forgiveness I thought it would be good to reflect on the thought for the week published on our newsletter.
"To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness". Robert Muller
What is love? - Love is wanting the best for someone. So forgiving them would be a sign that you are wanting the best for them and for your relationship.
I have to be honest and say that to forgive is tough. It can be a challenge to forgive when someone has hurt you. But the problem with unforgiveness is that it can often affect you more than the person you choose not to forgive.
Forgiveness is about letting go and can be about forgiving someone even if they don't say sorry. Forgiveness brings freedom and it changes you for the better.
One of the words that sits at the heart of our school vision is TRANSFORMATION. Saying sorry and offering forgiveness leads to transformation.
So today, think about your relationships and whether you need to help transform them with a kind word or deed.
Friday 10th July - Assembly and newsletter
Hello everyone. I think the old saying is, "better late than never". So here's our assembly for today. Apologies for it's lateness. Perhaps you could take a look at it over the weekend.
It's the next in the i-singpop series entitled - CHANGE.
Here is a copy of the newsletter for this week.

Tuesday 7th July
Good morning. I have been thinking the about the word sorry and I realise it can be the easiest and also the most difficult word to say. We can say it with no meaning; it just slips off the tongue, without a thought or we say it and it carries significance and expectation that things will be put right in our relationships.
At school, when things go wrong we are all encouraged to think carefully about saying sorry. I often say to children: "Saying sorry means that I am going to try and not make the same mistake again".
On Friday, I received an email from a year five boy who had created a wonderful shield as part of their Tudor topic work. On it were the words - FACTA NON VERBA - which means - DEEDS, NOT WORDS.
It is such a good message when thinking about saying sorry. It is easy to 'talk the talk' but not so easy to 'walk the walk'. This little blog is a challenge to me today, I've written these words and now I must try and live them out.
Monday 6th July 2020
Good mornng everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend. The theme of forgveness carries on this week and we have an assembly this morning from isingpop which speaks of RECONCILIATION.
Last week we thought about the story of The Prodigl Son.Reconciliation was one of the main themes in the story of the Prodigal son. The son in the story said sorry for the wrong things he had done, his father forgave him completely and then they were reconciled to one another.

Tuesday 30th June
Good morning. Apologies for not posting an assembly yesterday. I have decided to write a short blog with a thought for the day on two mornings and produce an assembly three days a week. I hope you will find both types of communication useful. Our assemblies over the next week or so will be based on the value of forgiveness. As I've prepared for these assemblies I have thought lots about saying sorry and offering forgiveness and I have come to the conclusion that both can be quite difficult to do.
Sometimes it takes a real act of will to say sorry or to really forgive someone when they've hurt you. Both however are essential if we are to repair and restore broken relationships and transform our communities. Why don't you take time today to stop and think if there is a relationship in your life that is broken; that needs fixing. Why not make the first move, be brave and either say sorry or offer forgiveness. Saying sorry is not a sign of weakness but of strength.
I hope you enjoy a really lovely day - work hard, don't forget to rest and stay safe.
A message from our Governors
The Governors would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Nicol and all the staff at Offenham CE First School, during these unprecedented times. It has certainly been a very difficult task and an entirely new situation to deal with. The Governors have been kept fully informed of the measures taken to support Key-worker children and bring years R/1 back into school. This has been organised through continued meetings via Zoom (both committee and full Governors) and detailed emailed reports. It is quite clear that the amount of work Mrs Nicol and all the staff have put in place to make this all happen, is phenomenal.
We would also like to thank the staff for the ongoing home-school support for all pupils during lock-down and the care for our Key-worker children, including outside of term time!
Our families are very blessed to have a team who are so flexible and focused on caring for their children.
With warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks,
Rich Arthur (Chair) & Lisa Farmer (Vice-chair)
On behalf of all the Governors of Offenham CE First School

The Duchess of Cambridge will lead an online assembly for the Oak National Academy during which she will speak about the importance of mental well-being among children. The theme of the Duchess’ assembly is ‘spread a little kindness’ and is based on a lesson plan which is available on the Mentally Healthy Schools platform. This platform was developed in collaboration with children’s mental health charity Place2Be and encourages children to explore ways in which they can show kindness and recognise the benefits of kindness to others.

Newsletter Friday 1st May
Firstly, my apologies that this week's newsletter is not in its usual format. My computer is having difficulty downloading documents.
Thank you to everyone who has been sending images of their work and themselves involved in lots of different activities. I really enjoy seeing what you've all been up to.
Hope
I was so moved by the National act of worship on Thursday which featured the Archbishop of Canterbury. If you haven't had chance to view it you will find it on the Oak National Academy website under assemblies. There are also lots of lessons you might want to access there too.
Hope is such a wonderful message for us all at this time. Do you remember the Archbishop's three p's that hope bring us?
P - purpose
P - patience
P - perseverance through pressure
I received an amazing photograph of one of our children standing under a rainbow. Thank you for sending it to me so that we can all share in its beauty.
Leavers hoodies
A huge thank you to Payne Electrics for sponsoring the Leavers Hoodies this year. Your continued kindness towards our school and in particular at this time to our year fives is very much appreciated.
Year five parents - don't forget to return your slips to Mrs Lee at the address at the bottom of the form.
Thank you too to Mrs Lee for organising the production of Leavers hoodies.
Golden apples
Remember to send your golden apple nominations to me so that I can publish them on the website.
Music box
This week I have chosen an orchestral version of a song that the boys in my singing group really like to sing. It's 'Believer' by Imagine Dragons. I hope you enjoy it as you use it throughout the week as preparation for our assembly times together. If you have suggestions of music please send them to me.
Here is the link to the music:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJW47Z6vL1U
As always with youtube clips make sure you view them with a parent.
Assemblies
Just a reminder that I will publish a new assembly every day and you will find it in this section of the website.
Thought of the week
This week's quote is from Nelson Mandela who was quoted by Justin Welby in his assembly:
"May your choices reflect your hopes and not your fears"
I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend. Make sure to have a rest from home learning and just enjoy being with your family.
i-singpop at home
Good morning, for our assembly we are going to join with i-singpop. Follow the link to the #faithathome video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clbDkcl6UWo
It is Friday and therefore celebration time. Please send me your golden apples for this week's work and I will publish them on our website. Congratulations and well done to all those of you receiving apples.
First ever national act of Collective worship
Good mornng. Today at 10am there will be the first ever nationwide live-streamed assembly. The act of worship will be led by Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury and will feature children and teachers from around the country.
It would be good to tune in at 10am and join with thousands of others.
The link is:

If it doesn't work, search TES youtube channel.
Have a lovely day.
I had a lovely email from a mum yesterday. She sent some photos of her children dancing to 'When I get that feeling'. Great dancing you two!
