Good morning everyone, today is the first day of something different, it will feel strange not being together today. Some of us are at home and some of us are at school but we will all be engaging in the same learning tasks together, though not at exactly the same time. This new way of doing things might take some getting used to but as Albert Einstein said, “in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”. So, let’s see these next few weeks as an opportunity.

May I suggest that you set a daily timetable that fits in with your family’s pattern of life. Make sure to plan in time for maths, english and your afternoon activity as well as time to rest, read, be active and creative.

I think there are some things that we can do to maintain our sense of community, even though we are not physically in the same place.

Everyday I will put a thought for the day on this blog and I recommend that you spend some time in the day listening to our music of the week. It would be good to carry on with music from John Williams. My suggestion for this week is the theme from ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’. Here’s the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U519RdznMA. As always, only use Youtube when you are with an adult.

For those of us at school we will be tuned into Joe Wicks at 9am as we join him for a live PE lesson, perhaps you could do the same.

I hope you enjoy a good day. Don’t forget to send us photographs of your completed learning activities.

Severn Class Optional Home Learning in the Summer Holidays

Happy holidays to you all and thank you to those children who gave a card and/or gift at the end of term. They are much appreciated.

For optional summer learning I am copying the national academy links below, as well as the White Rose Maths link for maths practice or catch-up:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-4/ or https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-5/ You could choose a subject and lessons to complete each day.

White Rose Maths have put together some parent workbooks for years 1 to 6 which you might like to download and print off over the summer. They have put them into blocks for Autumn and Spring but can be used now or to help them next year. If you feel your child would benefit from some extra practice then please check out this link: https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/primary-resources/parent-workbooks/

If possible, daily reading would be fantastic during the holidays and the practice of times tables for maths. Do also check out the proposed arrangements letter from Mrs Nicol at the bottom of the Severn Class page on our school website for starting back on Thursday 3rd September.

Enjoy a great summer and stay safe.

Looking forward to seeing you all in September,

Best wishes,

Mr Holley

History

Today I would like you to do some research all about knights.  You could find out about lots of different knights, about what jobs they did, about where they lived, about the clothes they wore. Anything that interests you.  Find out at least 6 facts about knights.  After you have found out your facts you need to go on Purple Mash where there is a template on 2do for you to put your facts.  It’s like a little booklet for your facts. Remember to save your work so I can see it. If you don’t want to do it on Purple Mash then you can write your facts in your green home learning book.  Here are some websites to help you with your research…

Home Learning w/c 20th April 2020

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a super holiday and have enjoyed lots of family time together.  Going forward, every Monday I will put the whole weeks tasks on this page,  I will put all the links / powerpoints / pictures you will need for the week ahead. Everyday there is a Maths and an English activity and then a topic session too. At the bottom of this section I have also attached a weekly overview in a timetable if this is an easier way for you to view it.  I know how hard it is to be schooling from home and so please find a way it works for you and your family.  If some days things don't quite work out then don't worry, just do what you can.  The mental well-being of you all (children and adults) is more important than work I am setting for you.  Take each day as it comes and just do what you feel is right. As ever I will be checking my emails during the week so please email if there is anything you are unsure of or send any pictures you'd like me to see (I love the photos!)  Love to you all, Miss Aucock xx

Online Reading Resources

I hope you have had a lovely start to the Easter Holidays and that you've enjoyed a more relaxed Monday morning than usual! Although children took a couple of books home from school we know that they will have read those by now and you are looking for alternative ways to continue reading from home.  Although there are many websites offering free books online, some are far better than others.  The best ones are those that give children the opportunity to search (by age or genre) and have a wide selection of books in their online library.   I have attached a document which has links to some of the best online libraries (this is not an exhaustive list!).  I hope you have a great holiday, take care of each other and stay safe.  Have fun reading, Miss Aucock.

If you have not looked at the gallery on the home learning page for a while, you will enjoy seeing what other children have been doing.

Now that we are in the last week of term, spend a few minutes reflecting on the term, but also make sure you have some fun, hopefully in some sunshine!

Have a great week – and a wonderful summer holiday!
With best wishes,

3.4.2020

Well done Cotswold Class, we have made it to the last day of term. You have all worked so hard this term and especially this last two weeks at home.

You have your three activities in your home learning book, designing a chocolate factory, maths word problems and learning about the Mayan number system. As an extra activity today I have set a 2do on purple mash to create a spring picture. You can either do this on purple mash or create it using your own art supplies, things from your garden or any way you see fit. I cannot wait to see photographs of your creations.

If you have any golden apple moments from the week remember you can send me a photograph of these to go on our golden apple section on the website.

Enjoy the last day of term and have fun.

Mrs Daniels

2.4.2020

Hello Cotswold Class, I hope you are all well. Thank you for the photographs that I received yesterday, I love seeing what you are getting up to.

You have three activities in your home learning book today. I am really looking forward to seeing your ideas for a design for your own chocolate bar, if you are feeling creative you could have a go at making it or making the packaging that it would be in. Please remember to send me a photograph.

I have set up an additional activitiy on purple mash testing your knowledge of the 6 times table. Maybe have a practise of these before you complete the activity.

Finally Mrs Nicol has invited you to make an Easter bonnet and send her a photograph of you in it.

Have a fun day and keep safe.

Mrs Daniels
